Career Prep!

On Wednesday and Thursday we had MCI student, Alanna, join us in our classroom for her career prep.  We loved her sense of humour, her warm personality and her willingness to try anything!  Here is her thank you note she left for me.  What great insight for a grade 11 student!  If she decides to go into teaching, I know she will make an awesome teacher!

To Mrs. Morrice,
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to see what it’s like to be in a teacher position.  Please tell the students I said thank you for being friendly, funny, open and respectful and just really good kids.  I have had an amazing two days working with you all.  I have learned a lot in these two day that I didn’t think I would.  I especially learned that a bond with the student is essential to their learning.  I realize now I knew this all along when I was your own grade 6 student almost 5 years ago.  Thank you for helping me shape into a good student and teaching me that sometimes, it’s not the skills you learn in college or university that makes you a good teacher.  J  Thanks again!  Alanna

Multiplication War

To practise our multiplication facts, the students played war with dice.  One person would roll the dice and whoever said the product first for the two numbers rolled, would get the point.  Some of the students know their facts very well, others realized they needed to practise more at home!

Today we reviewed how to Read to Others when we are doing The Daily Five.  We sit EEKK (elbow to elbow and knee to knee).  This way we can read the book together and check for comprehension and accuracy.
