On Friday we had our Health class outside in the beautiful sunshine.  We formed a web of yarn by tossing the ball of yarn to each other as we sat in a circle.  When the yarn was thrown to a student, that student had to share what made him/her unique.  After the web was made, we discussed how we were all connected in some way even though we were all different.

Today was our very first TUSC meeting.  The grade five students were a bit nervous, but everyone did an awesome of presenting his/her TUSC jobs.  Mrs. Morrice was very impressed with how well prepared and creative the presentations were.

We were amazed at the very unique carrot one of our students had growing in her garden!

We had a lot of fun in Science studying the properties of air.  We love to do experiments!

Our first TUSC meeting is Thursday September 27th.  The students are excited to present their first speeches to the class.  Below is a picture of our TUSC wheel that the students will be spinning every meeting to find out what their next presentation will be!

 

Mrs. Morrice is reading a book called Ryan and Jimmy to the class in Language Arts. It is a true story about a Canadian boy named Ryan Hreljac who raises money to help dig a well for Jimmy's village in Uganda. The students are listening to the story and practising the reading strategies they are learning from the CAFE program.

 

 

 

 

Here we are watching a video one of our students found with Ryan and Jimmy celebrating the success of the well ten years later. We thought it was pretty cool to see Ryan and Jimmy as adults.

 

 

Today in Math, Mrs. Morrice gave each of us $1 000 000! For the rest of the week we get Math class to spend it any way we like. We are having so much fun learning just how much one million dollars is!

 

 

In period 8 today we all took part in a mini Terry Fox Run to help raise money for cancer research.  Every student student wore a large sticker identifying who they were running for!  We think Terry Fox is a true hero and we are proud to be Canadian!

In Science we are studying the weather.  So today we went onto the weather network and looked up the weather forecast. 

Over the next month, we are going to take turns presenting the weather forecast to the class.

 

New School Year in Mrs. Morrice's 5/6 Classroom!

 

      Well we have started another school year and 2012-2013 is going to be the best school year ever because I have the best students in my classroom. Here are a few pictures of us hard at work the first five days of school!
